File Menu

Commands in this menu include:

Menu item Description Shortcut
New This command clears the workspace and prepares Substructure for a new project. <Ctrl+ N>
Update Use this command to update the corresponding bridge model on the level of the main module.  
Save As This command allows you to save a project file under a different name. The previous data file will be retained under the original name. To save a file, select the appropriate directory and drive and input a name in the File Name field. Click Save to save the file under the new name. Clicking Cancel will cancel the file saving and return to the program.  
Save Setting The Save Setting command allows you to save current data as default data, and is especially useful when performing repetitious designs with only a small amount of input variation. The Save Setting command will save material properties. A message will appear asking if you want to save the current settings as default settings. Click OK and the next time the program is started, or the New command is activated, these previously saved settings will exist as defaults. These values are stored in a default file specified under the Show | Preferences option.  
Print The Print command allows you to print the project data and results summary. You can view the results on-screen, send to a printer, or print to a file. You can select a specific component of the pier to print or customize which parts of the results or input data to print. Pier specific results can only be printed for piers for which a design has been completed and the results are available.

A typical printout contains your company header, to include filename, date, etc. The bottom of a printout includes the program name and input file path, and the design code used.

When the button of Detailed Design Reports is clicked, a new Preview window will pop up. In the new window, users may select Structure components, report types, checking points, and click the Submit button. Detailed design reports will be generated. Besides, the detailed formulas, intermediate calculations, references from the design code are provided in the detailed reports.

For AASHTO LRFD code, the program also offers the detailed design reports for cap, column, and footing of substructures. In the detailed design reports, the related references of articles, equations, and intermediate results are exposed. The following detailed design reports are supported. For footing types, isolated and combined, pile and spread footing are covered.

  • Flexural design check of pier/abutment cap
  • Shear design check of pier/abutment cap
  • Cracking control check of pier/abutment cap
  • Fatigue check of pier/abutment cap
  • Shear check of column( if shear check for column is selected)
  • Flexural design of footing cap

Simply click the button of Detailed Design Reports in Printing dialog, a Preview window will pop up. You may specify what structure components, points of interests (POI), and what types of code checking are included.

Print Setup Selecting this command will activate the Print Setup screen. Once the output device is selected, click Properties to configure the selected output device.  

Exit The Exit command exits Substructure. A message will display, verifying if this is certainly your intention. If there is any data not saved, the program will display a message asking if you want to save the existing data before exiting the program.
